Blue Jays catching prospect J.P. Arencibia was named the Florida State League’s offensive player of the week.
J.P. Arencibia continued the hot-hitting May (.362) that has lifted his season average into the FSL top 10 at .315. The catcher, who had four three-hit performances in his past seven games, added clout to consistency this week. He belted three home runs to bring his season total to eight, but his knack for knocking in runs was even more impressive, with 15 on the week. The 2007 first-round pick now has one RBI in each of his last seven games, and at least two in six of those appearances. A clutch contributor all season, Arencibia is batting .317 with runners in scoring position, accounting for 26 of his 39 RBIs, a total that ranked second in the league at the week’s end.
