RECORD RELATED
Wins
The Blue Jays offense cost Halladay quite a few wins (as many as 5). One stretch Roy Halladay tossed four complete games and lost 3 of them.
Stat Padding
Lee is 5-0 against the hapless Royals, 2-0 against the Tigers despite a 5+ ERA and 2-0 against the Rangers despite a 6+ ERA (all sub .500 clubs by the way). The only unearned boost Halladay had handed to him was a single win against the Twins despite a 5+ ERA.

Run Support
You can pitch four straight complete games and lose 3 (Like Halladay did) because your offense simply does not score enough runs to win the game. That was the same old story for Roy Halladay for most of the 2008 season: he goes out and tosses a great game, but the offense sat back and game him zero support.

In individual stats, Cliff Lee has the slight edge in ERA and surrendered .005 fewer hits per game... thats about the only statistical advantage Lee has over Roy Halladay. In most other pitching categories, Halladay wins. The only edge Lee has over Halladay is in a category that is not totally decided by the pitcher, win-loss record. As I’ve shown above, Lee padded his record against weak teams and the greater offensive support further inflated his record.
Roy Halladay has simply been the better pitcher and deserves the Cy Young award over Cliff Lee. BUT Lets not forget the most important stat... we all know this will be the deciding factor:
Plays for an American team
