GENERAL

Selected by Toronto Blue Jays in 1st Round (38th overall) of 2007 amateur entry draft.

2008
Made his full-season debut with Class A Advanced Dunedin, starting four April games and allowing two runs on six hits while striking out 11 in 10 1/3 innings (1.74 ERA). Promoted to Double-A New Hampshire in late April. Allowed 12 earned runs in his first six Eastern League starts (23 1/3 innings) for a 4.63 ERA. In 11 starts between June 3 and July 27, pitched 54 1/3 innings and allowed 10 earned runs on 44 hits while fanning 64 and posting a 1.66 ERA. Had a 6-1 record in those 11 games. Spent Aug. with Triple-A Syracuse. Was battered for eight runs (five earned) on eight hits over 2 1/3 innings in his International League debut. Held Rochester to two hits and no runs in seven innings on Aug. 17. Pitched seven no-hit shutout innings against Buffalo on Aug. 23. His combined 2.88 ERA across the three classifications ranked fourth in the Blue Jays system. His 129 strikeouts were fifth-most.

2009
Cecil will make his major league, and Blue Jays, debut on May 6, 2009 against the Cleveland Indians.

SCOUTING REPORT

Fastball: 88-92 mph range.

Slider: 81-86 mph, very tough on left handers.

Control: Throws strikes.

Build: Strong body.

Weaknesses: Lack of a change up. Needs something to throw to right-handed batters.

Strenghts: Slider will get him to the majors, the addition of a changeup could turn him into a closer.

Projection: At the least a very good left-handed setup man in a major league bullpen.
